September 7, 1967 - The Tipton Conservative

Funeral services for Mrs. Merle Marie Casterline, 78, were held Sept. 5 at the Sheets and Son Funeral home with the Rev. E. H. Lauer officiating. Burial was in the Tipton Masonic cemetery.

Pallbearers were Gerald Hartog, Norman Hamiel, LaVerne Suchomel, Ralph Bennett, A. S. Petersen, Raymond Crock Sr., V. R. Gough and Roy S. Cook.

Mrs. Wendell Willer was vocalist and Mrs. Irma Crawford organist. Mr. and Mrs. Richard Ferguson and Mr. and Mrs. E. J. Wilson were in charge of flowers.

Mrs. Casterline died at Cedar Manor Sept. 2 following a heart attack. She had been ill for an extended period.

The daughter of Bernie and Lydia Scheib Shaver, she was born May 27, 1889 at Wellman and graduated from the Wellman schools. She received her BA degree from the University of Iowa.

She was married to Atty. Lloyd E. Casterline at Iowa City Aug. 25, 1912, and had been a resident of Tipton since that time.

She held membership in the American Association of University Women and the Needlecraft club and served for several years on the Tipton Library board. She was a member of First United Church of Christ.

She is survived by a son, Atty. James Casterline, Tipton, and 3 daughters, Mrs. K. F. (Ruth) Pfeifle, Tipton; Mrs. C. M. (Rae) Edwards, Elkhart, Ind. and Mrs. Roy (Cleo) James, Wilton Junction; 7 grandchildren and a sister, Mrs. J. B. Chardwick, Wilmington, Calif.

She was preceded in death by her husband and a brother, Karl Shaver.
