Emil Dircks, 76, a lifelong resident of this community died last Wednesday in the Wilton Jct. Nursing Home. He had been in ill health the past six months.
Funeral services were conducted Friday afternoon in Zion United Church of Christ, the Rev. Robert MacDanel officiating. Irma Strackbein was the organist. Burial was in Van Horne cemetery, south of Lowden.
Serving as pallbearers were Fred Dircks, Richard Dircks, Robert Dircks, Jerry Proesch, Robert Stuhr and David Conrad. Mrs. Conrad and Mrs. Stuhr were in charge of flowers.
Emil Dircks was born Sept. 11, 1887 in Lowden, the son of Fred H. and Anna Richman Dircks. He attended Lowden schools.
On June 23, 1909, he married Frieda Reinking. He was employed by the A. Freund Company until 1924, when the couple began farming. In 1946 they retired and returned to Lowden. She preceded him in death.
He was a life member of Zion Church, had served on the church council and on the Lowden Volunteer Fire Department.
Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Marie Benning of Cedar Rapids; two sons, Wallace of New Liberty and Darrell of Clarence; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren, one brother, Carl of Lowden and one sister, Mrs. Frank Winters of Tipton.
Besides his wife he was preceded in death by two sisters, one brother and one grandson.
