Funeral services were held Monday for James Ross Ferguson, 87, of Mechanicsville who died Aug. 19 at Mercy Hospital in Cedar Rapids following a 5-week illness.

Mr. Ferguson was born to James C. Ferguson and Oceana Brookman on Jan. 24, 1879. He attended country school and farmed all his life southwest of Mechanicsville until his retirement in 1950, when he moved into Mechanicsville. He was never married.

The funeral was held at the Mechanicsville Methodist church with the Rev. James Nelson officiating. Pallbearers were Lewis Aaron, Carl Warren, Roxie Scott, Ed Jack, Ben Dennis and Raymond Puffer. He was buried in the Rose Hill Cemetery. The Morgan Mortuary in Lisbon was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Ferguson is survived by 3 brothers, Howard of Jackson, Miss., Everett, Mechanicsville and Morris, Lisbon. He also is survived by several nieces and nephews.
