Charles E. Whitmer, 86, died at his home in Wilton Junction July 30, following a lengthy illness.
He was born Jan. 26, 1880 in Sugar Creek township, the son of Elias and Elizabeth Lauer Whitmer. He had been a resident of Wilton Junction for 50 years and a former resident of Cedar county.
He married Olive McQuillen on Nov. 6, 1918 in Tipton. He was a retired carpenter.
Survivors include his wife; 2 sons, Chester E. of East Moline and Charles K. of Chicago; 7 grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by a son, Dwain, who was killed in World War II and a grandchild.
Funeral services were Aug. 2 with the Rev. I. G. Wilkins officiating. Interment was in Oakdale cemetery.
