Funeral services for Mrs. Abbie Aretha Mason, 94, a lifelong resident of the Cedar Bluff community, were held Jan. 19 at the Sheets and Son funeral home. The Rev. E. H. Lauer officiated. Burial was in the Mason cemetery at Cedar Bluff.

Pallbearers were Russell Howard, Earl Achenbach, Charles Albaugh, William Leopard, Richard Stevenson and Wilson Howe. Mrs. Richard Palmer was vocalist and Mrs. Max Phelps, organist. Mr. and Mrs. Claude Mitchell and Mrs. William Nerad were in charge of flowers.

Mrs. Mason died Jan. 16 at the Utopia nursing home after a lingering illness.

The daughter of Milton and Esther Kauffman Shawver, she was born at Cedar Bluff Oct. 20, 1871. She was educated in the rural schools of the Cedar Bluff area and was married to Daniel Mason at West Branch June 20, 1894. She was a member of the Cedar Bluff Christian church.

She is survived by a son, William, Lisbon; 3 daughters: Venus, Cedar Bluff; Mrs. Charles (Nellie) Achenbach, Mechanicsville and Mrs. Raymond (Mildred) Hyde, Anamosa; 3 brothers, Elmer Shawver, Tipton; Oscar Wehry, Rockford, Ill. and Albert Kinsel, Morrison, Ill.; 5 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, a son, a daughter and a brother.
