December 2, 1965 - The Tipton Conservative

Mrs. Jessie Jones, 85, a retired West Branch businesswoman, died Nov. 17 in a nursing home at West Branch, following an extended illness.

The funeral was held Nov. 20 at the Conservative Friends Meeting House. Burial was in the West Branch cemetery.

She was born May 9,1880, in Columbiana county, Ohio, daughter of Charles and Sarah Hollingsworth Blackburn. On March 22, 1906, she was married at Middleton, Ohio, to Howard T. Jones.

For many years, the couple operated the Jones Dry Goods store. Following Mr. Jones' death in 1936, Mrs. Jones continued to operate the store, retiring in 1960.

In 1961 the West Branch Chamber of Commerce presented to her its Outstanding Businessman's award.

Surviving are 5 daughters, Mrs. Martha Oeklke, Grinnell, Mrs. Esther Jensen, West Branch, Mrs. Elizabeth O'Donnell, Williams, Mrs. Ruth Newton, Johnston, and Mrs. Elinor Cloe, Davenport; 2 sons, William of Ridgewood, N. J., and Robert, Buckingham, Pa., 20 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Also 2 sisters, Lida Blackburn, Barnesville, Ohio and Mrs. Elma Carter, Brooklyn, N.Y., and 2 brothers, Rollin Blackburn of Columbiana, Ohio and Willard Blackburn, Delaware, Ohio.
