July 8, 1965 - The Tipton Conservative

Funeral services were July 6 in West Branch with the Rev. Roger D. Tappmeyer officiating for Mrs. Gussie L. Maxson, 86, of Tipton, who died in Moab, Utah, hospital July 2 after a brief illness. She had been visiting in Moab. Burial was in the Springdale cemetery.

Mrs. Maxson was born May 24, 1879, in Wyoming, the daughter of William and Susan Long Phelps.

She was married to Foster Maxson who was Cedar county sheriff during the early 1930's. The couple farmed in Cedar county and Mrs. Maxson was a member of the Friends church and of the Juanita chapter of the Eastern Star in West Branch.

Survivors include 3 daughters, Mrs. Edna Mueller of Moab; Mrs. Clara Shoemaker of Sun City, Ariz.; and Mrs. Verna Frauenholz of Iowa City; 2 sons, Elmer S. Maxson of West Branch and Archie Maxson of Iowa City, and one sister, Mrs. Orpha Brunsvold of Riverside, Calif., 7 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Her husband, 4 brothers and a sister preceded her in death.
