Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Jan. 12 for Herman Charles Rixe, 79, at Peace United Church of Christ in Bennett with the Rev. Robert Ahrendt officiating. Pallbearers were Donald Witte, August and Herbert Rixe, Bill Grace, Leon Timmerman and Leroy Wiese.

Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Riedesel Jr. were vocalists and Mr. and Mrs. Richard Hein and Mr. and Mrs. Richard Kintzel were in charge of flowers. Burial was in Inland cemetery at Bennett.

Mr. Rixe died Jan. 9 at Mercy hospital in Iowa City after a lingering illness.

The son of Deitrich and Wilhelmine Kroemer Rixe, he was born March 27, 1885 and was educated in the Springfield township schools. He was married to Lizzie Juchter Feb. 16, 1916.

He retired from farming in 1947 from the farm where he was born. He served as a director of the Bennett State bank from 1930 to 1959 and was a past secretary of the Bennett Co-Op. Mr. Rixe spent his entire life in the Bennett community.

He is survived by 2 sons, Warren, Bennett and Harold, Wayland; 2 daughters, Mrs. Rudolph (Verna) Proesch, Lowden and Mrs. Claire (Jeanette) Foote, Tipton; a sister, Mrs. Harry Riedesel, Petersburgh, Ill., 5 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, 5 brothers and 2 sisters.
