Mrs. Henry (Emma C.) Johnson, 65, foster mother of Donald Johnson, national commander of the American Legion, and a former West Branch resident died at her home in Orion, Ill. Dec. 27.

Funeral services were Dec.29 in Orion, after which the body was brought to West Branch for rites at Bethany Lutheran church. Officiating was Rev. William Thalacker and the Rev. L. A. Kirkegaard. Burial was in the West Branch cemetery.

Mrs. Johnson had moved with her husband from West Branch in 1960. She was born April 16, 1899, at West Branch, the daughter of Neil and Karren Christensen.

She married Henry A. Johnson in West Branch April 25,1920. She was a graduate of the West Branch school system and the State College of Iowa. She taught school in the West Branch area many years. She was a member of St. Paul's church in Orion and was a past president of the American Legion auxiliary.

Survivors besides Donald Johnson, include her husband; a daughter, Mrs. Ronald Benson, Orion; a brother, Carl Christensen, West Liberty; a sister, Mrs. Clara Johnson, West Branch, and 11 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by 2 sisters.
