Memorial services were held for Mrs. Charles R. Powers, former Tipton woman, at 10:30 a.m. Nov. 28 at the Vinton Methodist church with graveside services at 2:30 that afternoon at the Tipton Masonic cemetery.

The former Mildred M. Chamberlain was born at Tipton Feb. 8, 1893 and died early in the morning Nov. 25 at the Vinton hospital following an illness of several months. She attended the Tipton schools and spent her early years in the Tipton community.

She was married Dec. 29, 1914 to Charles Powers at the Trinity Methodist church in Cedar Rapids by the Rev. A. L. Cook. They lived on a farm in the Tipton community for a number of years, later moving to Tipton where he was local manager of the Sunlight Produce Co. She was an ardent worker in the church and sang for many years in the Tipton Methodist choir.

They moved to Vinton in 1947. She was a member of the A.L. Auxiliary at Vinton and they were both employed on the staff of Iowa Braille & Sight Saving School until their retirement a couple of years ago.

She is survived by her husband, Charles, and a son, Wilbur, Vinton, 4 brothers, Everett and Forest, Tipton; Walter, Wilton Junction and Ralph, Kenosha, Wis.; 2 sisters, Mrs. Dawson Powers, Tipton, and Mrs. Eva Pirie, Stanwood.

She was preceded in death by a 14-year-old daughter, De Elda, in 1937 and her parents, Mr. and Mrs. William Chamberlain.
