Last rites for Newell Seward Huber, 71, retired Center township farmer, were held June 22 at the Sheets and Son funeral home with the Rev. A. C. Long of St. Paul, Minn. in charge. Burial was in the Tipton Masonic cemetery.
Keith Bell, Don Conway, Ross Nebergall, Roger Moravek, Max Phelps and William Feldman were pallbearers. Mrs. Irma Crawford was organist and Mr. and Mrs. Guy Maurer and Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Maurer were in charge of flowers.
Mr. Huber died at St. Luke's hospital in Cedar Rapids after suffering a heart attack at his home southwest of Tipton June 20.
The son of Winfield and Cora Belle Gregg Huber, he was born in Cedar township May 31, 1893 and spent his life in the same community. He was educated in Tipton Rural School No. 5, graduated from Tipton high school and attended Iowa State University.
He was married to Gertrude Yule March 3, 1925.
A veteran of World War I, he entered service July 22, 1918 and was discharged May 5, 1919 as a private first class. He was a member of the Methodist church and the American Legion.
On his return from service in World War I, he farmed with his father on the homestead filed by his grandfather, John Huber, more than 100 years ago.
He was preceded in death by a brother Forest Scott and a sister, Edna Ethel Glew.
He is survived by his wife, 2 sisters, Mrs. H. H. (Laura) Glew, Iron River, Wis. and Mrs. J. W. (Florence) Ashton, Blommington, Ind.
