John Eugene Wright, 80, of Iowa City, a native of Cedar county, died suddenly May 25 of a heart attack while at work at Hotel Jefferson, where he had been employed.
Requiem high mass was May 27 at St. Wenceslaus church in Iowa City and burial was in St. Joseph's cemetery.
Mr. Wright was born Oct. 13, 1883, at Plato, in Cedar county, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph C. Wright.
Following his graduation from West Branch high school, he attended the University of Iowa, and was graduated from the college of engineering in 1909. He then farmed in the West Branch area until 1928, after which he was employed in the engineering department of the Iowa highway commission for more than 20 years.
He later was city engineer in Fort Dodge until his retirement in 1959, when he came to Iowa City.
His wife, the former Mayme Semann of Iowa City, died in 1936.
Mr. Wright was a member of St. Wenceslaus church and the Iowa Engineering Society.
Surviving are a son, Joseph Z. of Iowa City, and 2 grandchildren. Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by 2 brothers and a sister.
