James Aaron Long, rural Ely, a Cedar county farmer for many years, died April 6 at Ely, following a sudden illness.
The son of Aaron and Margaret Ellen Hill Long, he was born in Adair county Sept. 19, 1889. He was married to Martha Mae Sanders Dec. 4, 1908. They were the parents of 6 children, 4 of whom are still living. They are LaVerne H. Long and Mrs. Mildred Schlueter, Tipton; Mrs. Claribel M. Foote and Mrs. Mary Ellen Hardisty of Fort Wayne, Ind. Mrs. Long died March 4, 1922.
Mr. Long was married to Elsie Mae Goodall Pennington July 12, 1924 at Waterloo. He is survived by Mrs. Long and 4 children, Kenneth J. and Wayne L. Long, Marion; Mrs. Eleanor Bebber, Springville and Barbara J. Mesecker, Davenport.
Mr. Long farmed in Cedar county most of his life. He had been living at Ely for 4 years. He was a member of the First Presbyterian church at Marion and I.O.O.F. lodge at Springville.
In addition to his wife and children, he is survived by 3 sisters, Mrs. Walter Spear, Tipton; Mrs. Minnie Spear, Cedar Rapids and Mrs. Frank Meyers of California; 2 brothers, Hilbert and Lloyd Long, both of Tipton, 34 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
