Funeral services for James Albert Waddell, 89, former Bennett school superintendent, were held April 1 in the Dye funeral home with the Rev. Ernest H. Lauer in charge. Burial was in the Tipton Masonic cemetery.
Pallbearers were Boone Wright, Arnold Conrad, Robert Lacock, Neal Reeve, Henry Daude and Hermann Onken. Mrs. C. P. Christianson was organist.
Mr. Waddell died at 12:45 p.m. March 30 at Mercy hospital in Davenport where he had been a patient for 10 days.
The son of James and Angeline Waddell, he was born in Shippensburg, Penn., Oct. 5, 1874 and received his education in Pennsylvania. He came to Iowa in 1900.
He taught in the country schools of Cedar county and from 1908 to 1917 he was a teacher and superintendent in the Bennett school. From 1918 to 1940 he farmed 5 miles east of Tipton, retiring to Tipton in 1940.
He was married to Grace M. McCormick in Cedar Rapids Jan. 23, 1918. He was a member of First United Church of Christ.
He is survived by his wife, 3 sisters, Mrs. Anna Clippinger, Shippensburg, Penn.; Mrs. Nellie Busey, Aurora, Colo. and Mrs. Bess Hambright, Tipton and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a brother, William Waddell, and a sister, Mrs. Flo Wise.
