Funeral services for Bert Melvin Myers, 79, retired circus performer, were held May 6 at the Sheets and Dahn funeral home with Gordon Smith in charge. Burial was in Mt. Zion cemetery.

Mr. Myers died May 3 at the Thurston Nursing home after a lingering illness.

The son of Frank and Katherine Myers, he was born near Muscatine Sept. 26, 1882.

As a child he was raised with his father's circus, known as "Canada Frank's Rail Road Circus" traveling throughout the United States and Canada.

Later he became an aerial performer with the Melvin Brothers troup, performing high air feats on the trapeze, rings and revolving ladder.

After an injury, he retired from the circus and worked with a vaudeville circuit of theaters, including West Liberty, Muscatine, Davenport and Quincy, Ill. where, as he said, high class vaudeville was performed daily.

He is survived by 2 sons, Lt. Col. George Myers, Sheridan, Wyo. and Rodger, Houston, Texas; 2 daughters, Mrs. Donald (Mary) Heck, Omaha, Nebr.; Mrs. Harold (Denla) Heck, Cedar Rapids; 2 sisters, Mrs. Maude Kinyon, Davenport and Mrs. Winnie M. Bottegger, both of Davenport; 17 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
