Mrs. Belva Austin, 79, former West Branch resident, died Dec. 5 in the Mahaska County hospital at Oskaloosa after a short illness. She had lived with a sister at Oskaloosa since 1955.

Funeral services were Dec. 8 at the Friends church, West Branch. Donald Good and Mrs. Irma Guthrie officiated, and interment was in the West Branch cemetery.

Mrs. Austin was born Sept. 11, 1884, near West Branch, the daughter of Newton and Miriam Negus Branson. She was married to Dr. W. H. Austin, Nov. 2, 1940 at Gilman. She was a member of the Friends church.

Surviving are 2 brothers, Harvey of Glendale, Calif., and Ralph of West Branch; 3 sisters, Mrs. Ethel Tatum, Oskaloosa; and Mrs. Ada Millett and Mrs. Luella Davis, West Branch.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 1943.
