Garrie M. Hayslett, 73, of Iowa City, a former Cedar county resident, died at his home Aug. 22 after a long illness. He was a former farmer and retired University of Iowa employe.
Requiem high mass was Aug. 26 in St. Wenceslaus church, Iowa City, with burial in St. Joseph's cemetery.
Mr. Hayslett was born at Lexington, Va., March 23, 1890, a son of James and Elizabeth Hostetter Hayslett. He came to Iowa at the age of 21 and settled in Cedar county near West Branch, where he farmed.
He married Lillie Tucker of Cedar Valley February 20, 1917, and they moved to Iowa City in 1943. He was employed by S.U.I. until his retirement about 7 years ago.
Mr. Hayslett was a member of St. Wenceslaus church at Iowa City and the Legion of Mary.
Surviving are the widow; 3 sons, Leonard J. and Lawrence T., Tipton and Philip, Iowa City; a daughter, Mrs. Cecil (Bernice) Petersen, Anamosa; a brother, Albert, West Branch; a sister, Mrs. Frank Gaylor, West Branch; 22 grandchildren and a great-granddaughter. One son, 4 brothers and 2 sisters preceded Mr. Hayslett in death.
