Alfred F. Anderson, 70, long-time West Branch merchant, died suddenly Aug. 22 shortly after being admitted to Mercy hospital in Iowa City.

Mr. Anderson was stricken while attending a meeting of the West Branch Heritage committee where he had just been elected president of the organization being formed to promote the history of West Branch.

Funeral services were held Aug. 26 at the West Branch Methodist church, with the Rev. Charles F. Haigh officiating. Burial was in the West Branch cemetery.

Mr. Anderson was born Oct. 1, 1892 near West Branch, the son of Peter and Sina Madsen Anderson. He married Alma West in 1916. She died in 1929. In 1931, he married Mrs. Edith Stotler.

Mr. Anderson was a member of the West Branch Methodist church, a member and past master of the board of trustees of the Cookson home of West Branch and of the West Branch Lions club.

Mr. Anderson is survived by his second wife; 3 sons, Russell, Dallas, Texas; Donald, San Jose, Calif., and Arlo Anderson, Accakeek, Md.; 3 stepsons, Harold Stotler, West Branch; Dr. Donald Stotler, Portland, Ore., and Dr. H. T. Stotler, Carmel, Calif.; 4 brothers, Harley, Edward, William and Alvin Anderson, all of West Branch and 2 sisters, Gina Pedersen of West Branch and
