Charles Swartzlender, a life long resident of Tipton, died Tuesday after a brief illness. Mr. Swartzlender was born in Tipton, Feb. 28, 1858, and for 21 years was engaged in farming in that vicinity. After moving to Tipton he served as director, cashier and vice-president of the old City National bank, later known as the Tipton National bank. He served as secretary of the Cedar County Old Settlers' association for several years. Surviving are the widow; one son, R. D. Swartzlender of Tipton; two daughters, Mrs. Jean Furnish of Tipton and Mrs. Elizabeth Barger of Minneapolis and six grandchildren. The funeral was held this afternoon.
