March 21, 1963 - The Tipton Conservative

Mrs. W. A. Gay, 85, of Iowa City died March 17 at a West Liberty nursing home where she had been for the past 11 months. Mrs. Gay came to Iowa City in 1902.

Funeral services were March 20 at Iowa City.

The former Myrtle Equilla Downing, she was born at Tipton Aug. 2, 1877, a daughter of George W. and Emma Walters Downing. she was married to Mr. Gay at Tipton Oct. 8, 1897.

The couple lived at Bennett and Tipton before moving to Iowa City.

Survivors are her husband, six grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her sons, George and Forman Gay.
