Funeral services for Elmer G. Barnes, 61, were held Dec. 6 at the Methodist church in Stanwood with the Rev. Gordon Vickery in charge. A prayer service was held at the church at 11 a.m. and a military service were held at the cemetery, with the Hegarty-Busching post of the American Legion in charge.

Pallbearers were Willis McGuire, Glenn Tenley, Arthur Lehrman, William Ropa, William Plate and Philip Rosenbaum. Flower girls were Mrs. Willis McGuire and Mrs. Glenn Tenley. Mrs. John Swift sang accompanied by Mrs. Edward Spear.

Mr. Barns died at Veteran hospital, Iowa City, Sunday, Dec. 3, following a stroke Thursday, Nov. 30. He had just come home from the hospital Nov. 29 following successful eye surgery.

Elmer G. Barnes was born May 2, 1900 in Cedar county, the son of William E. Barnes and Nancy M. Comstock. He was married to Myrtle Smith May 17, 1919 in Baltimore, Md. He is survived by his wife, 3 sons, William, Seaford, Del., Edward, Antigo, Wis. and Paul, Belle Plaine; 10 grandchildren; 2 sisters, Mrs. Viola Curtis, Cedar Rapids and Helen Achey, Jacksonville, Fla.; 7 brothers, Harry, Ames, Frank, Salt Lake City, Utah, Clarence, Stanwood, Don, Urbana, Earl, Cedar Rapids, Jim, Hartford, Conn., and Tom, Tipton.
