October 26, 1961 - The Tipton Conservative

Mrs. James A. (Arch) Graft of Stanwood died at 5 p.m. Oct. 23 in a Cedar Rapids hospital as the result of injuries she received in an automobile accident Oct. 18.

Mr. and Mrs. Graft were picking nuts and apples at their farm. Their car, which was parked on a slight knoll, started to roll forward when the brakes apparently failed. The car struck Mrs. Graft who was rolled under the car. She received neck and internal injuries.

Edith, daughter of Louis and Sarah Aylesworth, was born near Tipton Dec. 22, 1883 and lived most of her life in the Stanwood area. She graduated from Stanwood high school in 1901. She was married to James Arthur Graft Jan. 11, 1908.

She was a member of the Methodist church and the Eastern Star.

She is survived by her husband, 2 brothers, Robert, Inglewood, Calif. and John Burr, Stanwood; 2 sisters, Mrs. Grace Gable and Mrs. Leone Del Bondil, both of Airhope, Alabama.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. today (Thursday) at the Stanwood Methodist church, with the Rev. Gordon Vickery in charge.
