Funeral services for Horace Franklin Gordon, 98, a native of Clarence, were held Oct. 10 at Mt. Vernon, with the Rev. George Dunn in charge. Burial was in the Olin cemetery.

Mr. Gordon died at Anamosa Oct. 8. He had been in failing health for about 2 months.

Mr. Gordon was born near Clarence May 3, 1863, the second youngest of 9 children. At 5 his family moved to a farm near Olin.

He was married Feb. 17, 1886 to Arminta May Mason, and they established their home at Olin. In 1902 he moved his family to Marion where he was in the mercantile business.

In 1909 the family moved to Warner, Alberta, Canada, where he was engaged in wheat farming.

In 1924 they moved to Mt. Vernon and returned to the mercantile business, until their retirement in 1935.

Mr. Gordon was preceded in death by his wife, Oct. 27, 1937, 4 sons, Willard, who died in infancy, Wilbur of Ladi, Calif., Charles and Earl of Cooldale, Alberta, Canada.

Surviving are 7 children, Frank R., Tipton; Harold M., Paradise, Calif.; Lyle E. Warner, Alberta, Canada; Lucille (Mrs. James) Long, Aukum, Calif.; Mildred (Mrs. George) Meinke, Stone City; Leonard C., Martelle, and Kenneth M. of Long Beach, Calif., 20 grandchildren and 56 great-grandchildren.
