October 5, 1961 - The Tipton Conservative

Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Chapman, 90, were held at North English Sept. 24 with Pastor Kenneth Carroll of Tipton officiating. Burial was in North English.

Mrs. Chapman died Sept. 22 at an Iowa City hospital after an illness of several weeks. She had been in failing health and had lived for the last 9 years with a daughter, Mrs. Forest Hipple of Springdale.

The daughter of Abraham and Serena Owen, she was born March 14, 1871 on a farm north of North English and was educated in the schools of North English and Audubon.

She was wed to Joseph S. Chapman at Marengo in 1891. They farmed near North English. She was a member of the Tipton Bible church.

She is survived by 4 daughters, Mrs. Hipple, Mrs. Grace Hesseltine, and Mrs. Leona Lux, Chicago, Ill; Mrs. Laura Van Fleet, Cedar Falls; a son James Chapman, Fenton, Mich.; 24 grandchildren, 44 great-grandchildren, 2 foster children, Mrs. Roscoe (Viola) Livery, Wellman and Albert Kalell, Cedar Rapids.

She was preceded in death by her husband, 2 daughters, Mrs. Edna Smith and Mrs. Gayle Lortz and a son, Clifford.
