Funeral services for Van O. Sterner, 70, a lifetime resident of Cedar county will be held at 2 p.m. today (Thursday) at the Sheets and Dahn funeral home with the Rev. Omar Pettersen in charge.

Pallbearers are 6 nephews, William Kohl Jr., John Phelps Jr., Joe Howe and William, Alfred and Larry Sterner. Mr. and Mrs. Dwain Ford are in charge of flowers. Mrs. Claire Nebergall is organist.

Mr. Sterner died Sept. 11 at Veterans hospital in Iowa City. He had been ill for several months.

The son of G. W. and Margaret Johnston Sterner, he was born April 21, 1891 and was married to Delight Howe Feb. 21, 1921. He served in the army during World War I and was a member of South Bethel church. He was a truck farmer.

He is survived by his wife, 2 daughters, Mrs. Edwin (Edna) Piontkowski, Roseville, Mich.; Mrs. Harry (Alta) Martin, Davenport; 2 sons, Dale, Tipton and John, Guttenberg, 18 grandchildren, 7 brothers, Dallas, Ivan and Carl, Wilton Junction, Gale and Lester, Muscatine, George, Atalissa and Ralph, Iowa City.
