Edward M. Savage, 84, long-time West Branch businessman, died May 9 at a Tipton nursing home.

For many years, he and his wife operated the West Branch hotel and the East Side café, retiring several years ago. Mrs. Savage died Jan. 16.

Mr. Savage was born Feb. 2, 1877, at West Liberty, the son of Dr. Theodore and Martha Savage. He married the former Anna Kintz at Cedar Rapids Sept. 9, 1908.

He was a member of the Methodist faith and the Iowa City Odd Fellows lodge.

Survivors include several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were conducted May 11 at West Branch with the Rev. Clifford Wolfe officiating. Odd Fellows services also were conducted. Burial was in the West Branch cemetery.
