Funeral services for James E. Kessler, 49, were held Feb. 13 at St. Bridget's church at Nolan settlement, with burial in the adjoining cemetery.

Mr. Kessler died Feb. 10 at Mercy hospital in Iowa City where he had been a patient since June 4, 1960, when his spinal cord was severed in a tractor accident on a farm west of Tipton. Since that time he had been paralyzed below the neck.

The son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Kessler, he was born near Solon Jan. 22, 1912, and was married May 30, 1942, to Hilda Miers. She preceded him in death March 28, 1954.

Mr. Kessler spent his entire life in the Solon-West Branch area, where he was a farmer.

He is survived by 5 children, Donald, Robert, Lawrence, Karlyn and Marilyn, all at home; 5 brothers, Al, John, Francis, Michael and Joseph, all of West Branch; 3 sisters, Mrs. Pat Donohoe and Mrs. Everett Irving, both of Solon and Mrs. Harry C. Dodds, Tipton.
