21 March 1890 - Clarence Sun

A sad and fatal accident happened Saturday evening last, at which time Mr. Max Ehrke, living about eight miles east of here, was cutting wood in the timber near his home. A tree he had felled lodged and in cutting the limb loose it sprang back and struck him in the head with such force as to fracture the skull. The funeral occurred Tuesday morning, from the German Evangelical church, Lowden, Rev. Schwartz officiating. We hear the deceased spoken of as a most exemplary young man and was the last one of the family of children to remain with the aged parents, who deeply mourn the sudden termination of their son's hopeful life. He was about twenty-three years of age.
