Oliver J. Albin, 56, prominent West Branch business man and sport enthusiast, died at his home Sunday about 9:30 p.m. after a lingering illness.

The son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Albin, he was born in West Branch Aug. 8, 1900, and spent his entire life in the community. He was a graduate of the West Branch high school. He was associated with his father in the Fred Albin & Son meat market and grocery business since 1924.

A baseball player in his younger days, he was an ardent sports fan. The Albins annually staged a banquet for West Branch athletes.

March 31, 1946, he was married to Ethel Hartvigsen. In addition to his parents and his wife, he is survived by two stepsons, Harold Hartvigsen, Davenport, and Donald Hartvigsen, Iowa City, and sister, Mrs. Florence Tilkington, West Branch.

Funeral services were Tuesday in the First Methodist church. Burial was in the West Branch cemetery.
