John A Moffit, 87, of DeWitt, previously of Mechanicsville, IA passed away at Genesis in Davenport on Wednesday, July 24, 2019.
John was born February 20, 1932 in Mechanicsville, the son of Maurice and Mary Margaret (Fisher) Moffit. He graduated from Mechanicsville High School and served in the U.S. Air Force. He was a farmer on the family Century Farm. John was also a private pilot and built and restored several planes and some tractors. John belonged to the American Legion and the Experimental Aircraft Assoc. He was also a member of St Mary's Catholic Church in Mechanicsville. He married Gwen Watson, they later divorced and he married Carmella "Jean" Jacobsen in 2005, he then moved to the DeWitt area. He is survived by two sons, Scott and Jay Moffit of Mechanicsville; and one daughter, Jill (Greg) Williams of Monticello. He has 5 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren and one sister, Janell (Dave) Copsin in California. He is preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Charles and Bill Moffit.

Per his wishes John has donated his body to the University of Iowa. There will be no funeral. Military services will be held at a later date. Memorials may be made to the charity/church of your choice.
