Morton H. Coppess, 82, who had farmed in this area for over 40 years, died June 14 at his home in Stanwood.

Born March 18, 1874 in a log cabin northeast of Stanwood, he was the son of Harvey and Caroline Booth Coppess. He was married March 11, 1898 to Rosa Seaman. The couple observed their 58th wedding anniversary this year.

When living near Clarence they joined the First Presbyterian church and after moving to Stanwood, became members of the Methodist church. Mr. Coppess was also a Mason.

Survivors include his wife; four sons, Max, Howard and Harlan, all of Stanwood, and Loren of Lowden; 15 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and a twin sister, Mrs. Harlan (Dora) Miller of Stanwood.

Sheets and Dahn funeral home was in charge of the services, which were Saturday. Burial was in Stanwood cemetery.
