22 March 1956 - The Tipton Conservative

Nadine Kamberling, 17-year-old Mechanicsville high school senior, was killed in a two-car crash at the east edge of Mechanicsville about 1 a.m. Sunday. She was the youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Kamberling.

Miss Kamberling's death is the first highway fatality in Cedar county in 1956.

Critically injured were Marlene Weber, 19, Mechanicsville, who was riding with Miss Kamberling and Donald Licht, 19, Lowden, driver of the other car.

Miss Weber, daughter of Mrs. Emma Weber, is in a Cedar Rapids hospital where she is suffering from severe head and back injuries.

Licht, son of Mr. and Mrs. Martin Licht, is in University hospital in Iowa City. He is suffering from head injuries. Both arms were broken above the elbow and he has a broken knee cap.

The accident occurred on a level, straight stretch of highway near the east city limits of Mechanicsville.

The two girls were returning to Mechanicsville from Stanwood. Licht, who had competed for the Iowa State college rifle team at Iowa City Saturday afternoon and remained for the basketball game, was returning to Lowden.

The cars collided almost head-on. The impact of the crash was at the right front of the Buick driven by Miss Weber and the left front of the Oldsmobile which Licht was driving.

Both cars were completely wrecked.

Nadine Kamberling, youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Kamberling, was born in Cedar Rapids July 28, 1938. She attended the Lisbon school until 1948, when the family moved to Mechanicsville.

She is survived by her parents, two brothers, Leo and Leonard, Cedar Rapids, and two sisters, Mrs. Angeline O'Connor, Cedar Rapids and Mrs. Marie Thomson, Mechanicsville.
