Funeral services for Axel Werner, 53, who died Monday of a self-inflicted gunshot wound were held Wednesday in West Branch.

Dr. W. J. Kopsa, Cedar county coroner, ruled the death a suicide. He said Mr. Werner had been in ill health.

Born in Copenhagen, Denmark, July 1, 1904, Mr. Werner came to the United States in 1922. He was married July 5, 1924, to the former Elma Gilseter at Elkader.

The couple came to West Branch about 18 years ago. Mr. Werner was a piano tuner and repairman.

Survivors include his widow and four daughters, Mrs. Marjorie Salsbury, Mrs. Mary Cornwall, Shirley and Alice, and three grandchildren, all of West Branch. Also surviving are his mother in Denmark and a brother, Paul, in Chicago.

The Rev. L. E. Bauman, pastor of the Methodist church officiated at the funeral service. Burial was in the West Branch cemetery.
