Mrs. Emma Douglas, 89, of West Branch, died in Mercy hospital at Iowa City Friday at 4:45 p.m. She suffered a stroke three weeks ago.

Mrs. Douglas was born near Madison, N.J., in 1868, the daughter of Joseph and Mary Chovey Bailey. She was married to James Douglas March 16, 1893, and the couple established its home in Scott township in Johnson county.

She was a member of the Methodist church, the Iowa City Rebekah lodge, the Ladies Encampment auxiliary, the North Scott social circle, and the Women's Society for Christian Service.

Survivors include a son, Lee, Iowa City; three daughters, Helen Douglas, Cleveland, Ohio, Mrs. Gordon Dinsmore, Coralville, and Mrs. Eloise Kelch, West Branch; six grandchildren, three great grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews. Her husband and a daughter preceded her in death.

Services were held Monday in the West Branch Methodist church with Rev. L. E. Bauman officiating. Burial was in the West Branch cemetery with graveside services by the Rebekahs.
