Nels Peter Olsen, 76, long-time West Branch business man, died Nov. 29 at Mercy hospital in Iowa City. Funeral services were held Tuesday at Bethany Lutheran church, with burial in West Branch cemetery.

He was born in Denmark Feb. 27, 1881, the son of Nels Peter and Marie Olsen, and came with them to America in 1884. They lived on year in Nevada, and then located on a farm near Centerdale.

He was married at West Branch to Anna Anderson Nov. 29, 1906. They farmed until 1911 when they moved to West Branch and he engaged in the implement and automobile business in which he was active until 1953. He then retired except for association with his sons who operate the business. N. P. Olsen was the oldest business man, continuously in the same line, in West Branch.

He was a member of the Bethany Lutheran church and for 25 years was president of the church board. He served on the town council and as mayor of West Branch. He was also a past president of the Iowa Implement Dealers association.

He is survived by his widow, one brother, Carl, of West Branch, five children, Mrs. Lydia Lund of Susanville, Calif., Mrs. Edna Hicks of Omaha, Nebr., Mrs. Ruth Hathaway of Los Angeles, and Ted and Richard of West Branch, besides 10 grandchildren.
