John Hartz, 87, a resident of Durant for 33 years, died at the Wilton Nursing home Sunday, following an extended illness.

Born Nov. 4, 1869, in Scott county, he was the son of Marx and Mary Hartz. He was educated in the rural schools. He farmed two and a half miles northwest of Durant until retiring in 1924.

Surviving are two brothers, Charles and George Hartz, and three sisters, Mrs. Anna Schiele, Mary Hartz, and Mrs. Henry Glaser, all of Durant.

He was preceded in death by three brothers and a sister.

Funeral services were held Wednesday. Burial was in the Durant cemetery.
