Funeral services for Carl W. Kruse, 78, a retired Lisbon baker, were held Saturday at Lisbon with the Rev. Eugene Miller in charge. Burial was in the Lisbon cemetery.

Mr. Kruse died at his home late Nov. 25. He had been in ill health for more than a year and suffered a stroke earlier in the week.

He was born in Sternberg, Mecklenburg, Germany, May 29, 1881 and was apprenticed as a baker and learned his trade in Germany. He walked from city to city throughout Germany learning specialties of many bakeries. His travels took him into Russia.

He came to the United States in 1904 and worked in Buffalo, N.Y. and Milwaukee, Wis. before coming to Fort Madison. He was married to Katherine Euler in Fort Madison. They lived in Tomahawk, Wis. and returned to Germany for 2 years, 1921 to 1923, then came back to the United States, settling in Munising, Mich.

The Kruse family moved to Lisbon in 1928 where he operated a bakery until 5 years ago when he retired at 73.

He is survived by his wife, 4 sons, Fred and William, both of Lisbon and Carl and Otto, both of Tipton and 2 daughters, Mrs. Paul (Anna) Koch, Wyoming and Katherine, Iowa City.

The sons served as pallbearers.
