Harry Raymond Filson, 66, a native of Stanwood and a World War I pilot, died May 17 at Sawtelle Veterans hospital, Los Angeles, Calif. He had been dean of engineering at the Northrop Aeronautical institute until his retirement a few months ago.
He was born at Stanwood and lived for a number of years on a farm near Red Oak park. After service in World War I as a pilot, he returned to Cedar county and was one of the first men to pilot a plane in the county. He left Stanwood in the early 20's.
He moved to Montana where he became a department commander of the American Legion. In World War II he served in the navy, reaching the rank of lieutenant commander.
He was a Mason, a Shriner and a member of the OX-5 club, composed of early day fliers.
He is survived by his widow, Mary, Inglewood, Calif.; a son, George R., Tucson, Ariz.; a brother, Casper H., Altadena, Calif., and 2 grandchildren.
