15 October 1959 - The Tipton Conservative

Verda Hill, a lifelong resident of Tipton, died Oct. 10 at St. Luke's hospital in Cedar Rapids. She suffered a heart attack about 2 years ago, but recovered quickly and was active until the time of her death.

Funeral services were held Monday with the Rev. A. C. Long in charge. Burial was in the Tipton Masonic cemetery.

Verda Louise Hill, daughter of Richard and Mary Elizabeth Hill, was born in Tipton, Iowa, Sept. 3rd, 1898.

She was a member of 2 of the pioneer families and a lifelong resident of Cedar County. Her schooling was obtained in the rural and city schools and she was a graduate of Tipton high school.

She started her career as a school teacher in the rural schools of the county and later served as city clerk in Tipton. For 10 years she was assistant cashier of the Farmers and Merchants bank and she also worked for the state banking department and Tipton State bank.

Miss Hill owned and operated Hill's store until her health failed. After her recovery from her illness and until the time of her death she was employed by Hedges-Gough Lumber company.

She was a member of the Methodist church, a charter member and past regent of the Open Prairie Chapter N.S. D.A.R. Also she was a past Worthy Matron of Tipton Chapter of Eastern Star.

She leaves surviving her one brother, Floyd C. Hill, one sister, Edith L. Hill, both of Tipton, and nieces and nephews.
