Funeral services were held Sept. 1 in Olin for Mrs. Harriet Hoag Carpenter, 85, a former Mechanicsville resident. Pastor George Gallaher officiated.
Harriet Hoag Carpenter, the daughter of Carrie Rice and Henry Hoag, was born in Mechanicsville, May 18, 1874 and died at the Stoecker nursing home in Anamosa, Sunday. She was married to George A. Carpenter Oct. 8, 1908. The couple had one daughter, Mrs. Chester (Dorothy) Sarby, Anamosa.
The family lived in Sumner, and Sterling and Rock Falls, Ill., before moving to Mechanicsville where she lived until 1946, when she went to live with her daughter and family.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, 4 sisters and one brother. She is survived by her daughter, Mrs. Sarby, Anamosa, a nephew, Dr. Lawrence Hines, Austin, Minn., and a niece, Mrs. H. W. Stettler, Belle Paine.
Pallbearers were Marvin Esbaum, Everett Esbaum, Robert Von Sprecken, George Park, Richard Esbaum and Carl Feddersen. Mrs. Magda Hartwig sang "The Old Rugged Cross" and "Rock of Ages", accompanied by Mrs. Elna Rohwedder. Interment was in Rose Hill cemetery, Mechanicsville.
