Walter Paulsen, 70, of West Branch died at a Tipton nursing home Friday night. He was born in Denmark Oct. 19, 1888, the son of Neil and Dorthea Jensen Paulsen, and came to the United States as a child.

He was married June 8, 1913, to Ephra Jensen, and except for a few years on the farm he has always been engaged in the construction business. Since 1946 he has had his son, Wayne, associated with him in the Paulsen Construction company, and in 1951 he organized the Paulsen Lumber company. He was a member of the Lutheran church and of the Masonic lodge.

He is survived by his wife, his son, Wayne; a daughter, Mrs. Arlene Slach; two sisters, Mrs. Marie Petersen, Springdale, and Mrs. Louisa Jensen, Atalissa, a brother, Jack, of Oskaloosa, and 9 grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Monday at the Bethany Lutheran church, preceded by brief family service. The Rev. L. A. Kirkegaard officiated. Burial was in the West Branch cemetery.
