John P. Jensen, 87, a prominent Cedar county farmer, died at his home Thursday evening, April 16, after an illness of about 3 weeks.

He lived on a farm near Centerdale, about 4 miles southeast of West Branch.

Mr. Jensen, a native of Denmark, was born Dec. 14, 1871, a son of Jens and Anna Sorensen Jensen, and came to this country as a boy with his parents. He was married May 10, 1899, at West Branch, to Anna Petersen.

He was a founder of the Bethany Lutheran church in West Branch and for 9 years was a member of the Cedar county board of supervisors. He served from January, 1932, to April 14, 1938, and from June 3, 1938 to Jan. 1, 1941.

He attended primary school at West Branch with Herbert Hoover, former U.S. president.

Survivors include his widow; 4 sons, Ferd, Earl Lawrence and Russell; a daughter, Mrs. Magnus Sondergard; a brother, Wilmer; a sister, Mrs. Tina Jensen, 11 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren, all of West Branch. A daughter and a great-grandchild preceded him in death.

Funeral services were conducted Sunday at the Bethany Lutheran church with burial in the West Branch cemetery.
