Mechanicsville, Ia. Aug. 3--William E. Soesbe, son of William and Minerva Soesbe, was born in Pioneer Grove Aug. 12, 1858, and died at his home in Mechanicsville July 30, 1916, aged about 58 years.

On July 3, 1877, he was married to Alice Koppenhaver and four children were born to this union, all of whom with the wife still survive. Besides these there are left to mourn his aged mother, Mrs. Wm. Soesbe, of Sutherland, Oregon, and two sisters.

Mr. Soesbe was a member of two fraternal organizations, the I.O.O.F and the M.W. of A. During the last illness in which for several months he was a great sufferer, he received the kindest care and attention from his brother lodge members, who exhibited in splendid example the fine spirit of true fraternalism. During this illness he was ever the patient sufferer, kindly, considerate, hopeful and ofttimes expressing himself with quiet humor.

On Monday evening, July 24th, he expressed a desire to become a Christian. He accepted Christ as his Savior, and received the sacrament of baptism. The joy that came to him then found expression in the following words: "That has taken a great burden from my heart, I feel better." Now freed from life's burden and sorrows and sufferings may we not say "He is well."

The funeral services were held at the Methodist church on Tuesday afternoon, conducted by Rev. W. N. Baker, the music being furnished by the Presbyterian male quartet. The members of the I.O.O.F. and M.W.A. attended in a body and escorted the remains of their late brother to the local cemetery, where interment was made.
