Axel Pedersen, 78, died Dec. 23 at Mercy hospital, Iowa City, following a stroke suffered at his home in West Branch Dec. 21.

He was born in Denmark April 4, 1879 and came to America as a young man, living in the West Branch vicinity more than 50 years. He was married to Dagmar Fink Pedersen in Denmark and they had five children. He was preceded in death by his wife in 1938 and one son, George, August 19, 1957. He was a sailor in his early manhood in Denmark and engaged in farming after coming to the new world.

He is survived by three daughters, Mrs. John Walenta, Mrs. Francis Gruwell and Mrs. George Lathrop, all of West Branch, and one son, Russell, in Texas.

Funeral services were held Friday at the Anderson Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. L. E. Bauman, with burial in the West Branch cemetery.
