1 September 1955 - The Tipton Advertiser

Kenneth J. Bunge, of Mechanicsville, drowned about 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday evening in the Cedar river at Palisades Kepler state park.

Mr. Bunge, 27, who was planning to be married in a few weeks was fishing with several companions, when he fell off a ledge into water about six feet deep. His body was recovered about ten minutes after the accident by Wesley Dvorak of Cedar Rapids. Attempts to revive the young man by artificial respiration were futile, although the efforts were continued for about an hour. The body was taken to the Horner funeral home in Mechanicsville.

In the fishing party were his brother Robert L. Bunge, who made a deparate effort to rescue him; Glen Svoboda and Rodney Hatcher. Dvorak was fishing farther down stream by himself.

Kenneth Bunge had planned to be married soon to Edith Ford of Mount Vernon, and had recently purchased a house in Mechanicsville.

Surviving him are his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Emil Bunge, as well as eight brothers and sisters.

He was employed as a painter by Cook Paints of Mechanicsville.
