Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday in Friends church for William Pierce, 75, who died at Oakdale Saturday, July 30, following a long illness.

The son of Andrew and Julie Lyle Pierce, he was born March 9, 1880, on a farm near Bennett, one of a family of eight children.

On January 14, 1904, he was married to Valetta Mae Long, at the home of the bride's parents, by the Rev. D. C. Perry. They established their home on his father's farm, where they lived until 1920 when they moved to a smaller farm which he bought near Buchanan.

In the fall of 1944, because of failing health, he moved with his wife to Springdale. In 1954 they celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary at Oakdale.

He was predeceased by his parents, two brothers Frank and Charles, and a sister, Bessie, and three infant sisters.

He is survived by his wife, five children, Mrs. Ethel Williams, Mrs. Dorothy Kohlscheen of W. Branch, William Forest of Cedar Rapids, Mearl Andrew of Centerdale and Harold Charles of Nichols, and a sister, Mrs. Clara Phillips of Burbank, Calif. Also surviving are 15 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren, besides a number of nieces, nephews and many friends.

The Rev. Taylor Guthrie officiated at the services which were conducted by Wm. B. Anderson funeral home. Burial was in the Masonic cemetery in Tipton.
