11 April 1889 - West Branch Times

Mr. Peter Neilson, one of the victims of the quarry explosion died at the hospital in Iowa City, April 4th, and was interred the following day in the Hickory Grove cemetery. Deceased came from Denmark to this country about five years ago and labored among the neighboring farmers, gaining their respect by his fidelity and diligence until last autumn when he settled in North Liberty and commences work in the quarries. Two years ago he sent back to the old country for the "girl he left behind him," and she came to be his faithful and loving wife, attending him in his last sufferings with a devotion unsurpassed. The only other member of his family was a little boy, whom his generosity rescued from privations and hardship. It is feared the poor child will miss his kindly care and protection for many a day. But may the Lord who tempers the wind to the shorn lamb, guide his steps to another fold as secure, and may He also comfort the stricken woman, who left home and kindred and made the long journey over sea and land to find a brief spat of happiness, crowned with sorrow and lonliness. Mr. Neilson was a member of the Lutheran church, and was about twenty-three years of age. JOSEPHA.
