29 October 1908 - West Branch Times

Peter Thomas was born near Georgetown, Ohio, Aug. 14, 1830, and passed to his eternal home Oct. 16, 1908, at the age of seventy-eight years, two months and two days.

His early life was spent in Ohio, where he was married May 2, 1855, to Rachel H. Branson, who preceeded him in her departure to be with Christ, more than fourteen years.

Of the six daughters that brightened this home four are living--Mrs. Ralph White of Los Angeles, Cal.; Mrs. D. B. Gritman, of Springville, Iowa; Mrs. Fred Chamberlain, of Puyallup, Washington, and Mrs. Laura Townsend of this place.

In 1863 the deceased moved with his family to Springdale, Iowa, where he remained until the death of his wife in 1894. His home was in Iowa until six years ago, when, because of failing health, he removed to the home of his daughter, Emma, in Puyallup, Washington, and resided there until his death.

He was a member of the Friends church throughout his life and lived an exemplary Christian life. His trust in Christ brought him the peace which passeth understanding.

During his illness of nine weeks, he prayed often that he might be kept calm, and peaceful, and quiet, and he was patient and thoughtful for those about him to the last.

The funeral service was held in the home of Mrs. Chamberlain, Puyallup, Washington, and was conducted by Rev. A. D. Kinzer, former pastor of the Congregational church, of that place.
