Mary Ann Dean was born 5th Month, 26th, 1828, in Columbiana county, Ohio, and passed to her reward 12th Month, 2nd, 1907, at the age of 79 years, 6 months and 6 days.

2nd Month, 10th, 1848, she was married to Lawrie Tatum, who died 1st Month, 22nd, 1900.

In the spring of 1848 she came to near where Springdale now is. She was one of the first to attend the first Friends meetings in Cedar county, near their home.

She was the mother of six children, five of whom survive her, Elwood, George, Ella T. Negus, Harvey D. and William W.

Most of her life after marriage was spent in Springdale, where she was a faithful member of the Friends meeting from its beginning and her interest in it never lessened. She was with her husband four years in work among the Indians, in Indian Territory. Recently she spent four years, in, or near Pasadena, Cal.

Her trust was in Christ, He was the anchor to her soul.

She was residing with her son, Elwood, and family at the time of her death, at whose home a brief service was held, Wednesday, at 12:30 followed by funeral services in the Friends church at Springdale, Wednesday afternoon at two o'clock.
