28 December 1905 - West Branch Times

Amanda Reed was born in Columbiana county, Ohio, Aug. 28, 1831, and died Dec. 10, 1905, at her home in Parnell, Mo. In 1846 she moved with her parents to Cedar county, Iowa. Nine years ago with her husband and six children she moved to Chillicothe, Mo., and from there they moved to Parnell in 1900.

She was married to Josiah Collins March 15, 1853. There were six children born to the union, all of whom are living and were present at the funeral except Mrs. D. E. Brogan who was sick.

Mrs. Collins was converted and united first with the Cumberland Presbyterian church, about the year 1848, later for convenience of worship she united with the Methodist Protestant church, remaining a member of this church until called to the church triumphant.

Mrs. Collins was a great sufferer during the later years of her life but bore her affliction patiently, though her sufferings at times were almost intolerable. She passed peacefully away Sunday afternoon about 3 o'clock. She lived and died in Christian faith, her life filled with the leaven of righteousness, her suffering and death beautiful and glorified by Christian fortitude.

The remains were laid in their last resting place Tuesday afternoon, in the Parnell cemetery. Short services were held at the house at 10:30 o'clock, when the remains were taken to the M.E. church where a short sermon was delivered by Rev. Stoke and Miss Hicks. --Parnell (Mo.) Sentinel.

The subject of the above sketch was well known to many readers of THE TIMES and will long be remembered by her old friends and neighbors as an ever ready friend and helper in times of sickness or trouble, whenever and wherever she could be of use. These will extend their heartfelt sympathy to her family in their sorrow.
